Baoshan is a residential area in the northern part of Shanghai. It hosts the main campus of Shanghai University, and boasts a rich history as the area saw heavy fighting during the battle of Shanghai. It is connected to central Shanghai through metro lines 1, 3, and 7, and also features ferries to Chongming Island.
Jing'an is one of the top-spots in Shanghai and a great mix of foreigners and locals. It is named after the famous Jing'an Temple, which sits at the center of this area. There are a lot of bars and restaurants and it is one of the best places to be during the weekends.
Whether it is shopping on famous West Nanjing road or grabbing a coffee in one of the funky coffee shops, this is definitely the place to be. It has great nightlife, so if you want to walk home after a good party, stay in Jing'an.
Minhang is a residential district in the Southern part of Shanghai. It is home to the beautiful water town of Qibao, where you can find traditional Chinese architecture and some local street food. Minhang is also home to the largest campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and a campus of East China Normal University. The district also features the Hongqiao Airport which primarily services domestic flights.
You can't get more downtown than People's Square. This is the real heart of the city and a great area to roam around. While being as modern as any mega-city, it maintained a lot of real Chinese character. The area is named after the huge park that hosts the city's main museums and grand theater.
It has the biggest (and busiest) metro station in Shanghai, so exploring the city has never been easier. If you enjoy shopping, nearby East and West Nanjing road will keep you busy for days. More of a foodie? The area has some of the best local and foreign restaurants.
Pudong is big, really big. From Disneyland and shopping malls to the main airport and the tallest skyscrapers. It is the newest part of town and is being built up fast.
It has a metropolitan vibe and offers an easy commute to most of Shanghai. Because it is the primary business district, it is well served by the metro with several lines coming into the district. Great international restaurants and bars as well.
Putuo is a district that borders the Baoshan District, Changning District and Jing’an District. It is also the place to be for students that are attending East China Normal University, Tongji University and Shanghai University of Engineering Science. The district is great for living in a quiet neighborhood and still being able to enjoy the tourist attractions, as the district includes the Jade Buddha Temple and the beautiful Changfeng Park. Putuo district is reachable with metroline 3, 4 and metroline 11.
Shanghai Railway Station
The area around Shanghai Railway station offers you great, immediate access to both downtown and most university locations. It is a very convenient location if you don't want to miss out on anything.
Don't feel like going out? The area has many malls and shopping centers, so no need to travel far for all your needs.
Xujiahui is a popular spot with locals and foreigners. While it will take a while for you to pronounce, you'll certainly enjoy the cosmopolitan vibe, many malls and restaurants around.
It has a lively business and residential community, so you can be sure to enjoy an amazing mix of people at any time of the day.
Yangpu District is located in northeastern part of Shanghai. It is home to three of China’s most prestigious universities, Fudan University, Tongji University and University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. The location offers its own shopping area called Wujiaochang Area (like the metrostation) where it offers you an enormous shopping mall such as the Wanda Plaza. Yangpu District is connected to other districts by metro lines 4, 8, 10 and 12.
Zhongshan park is very close to many universities and therefore a very lively area for students. Plenty of student bars that offer you the best deals on food and drinks. It is bustling area always full of activity.
Named after the beautiful park in this area, you also have a great getaway right around the corner for relaxation, fun events and a picnic with your friends. Very well connected by metro.
